How to Swap Your Jeep Grand Cherokee Headlight | 2011 – 2019 WK2
There’s nothing like embarking on a nighttime drive, only to realize one of your headlights is out. Suddenly, your car is like a pirate operating with one eye (headlight)!
Here is what you will need:
- A new headlight bulb (because replacing it with a used one? Not so bright)
- A screwdriver
- Gloves (unless you want your fingerprints immortalized on the bulb)
- Patience (this might be the trickiest tool to find!)
Step 2: Pop the Hood
Time to approach that metal beast with confidence. Open your Jeep’s hood and locate the back of the headlight assembly. It’s usually covered by a rubber cap.
Step 3: Remove the Old Bulb
This is where things get technical—but don’t worry, you won’t need a PhD. Twist the bulb counterclockwise and carefully pull it out. Remember, don’t touch the glass part! (Unless you want to play ‘guess the greasy fingerprints’ later). Grease will cause the new bulb to burst when it gets hot.
Step 4: Insert the New Bulb
Wearing a glove – insert the new bulb into the socket, turning clockwise to ensure it’s snug as a bug in a rug. Double-check that it’s secure, because nobody wants a wobbly light show on the highway.
Step 5: Test Your New Headlight
Hop back into your Jeep, turn the ignition, and flip on those lights. Stand back and admire your handiwork.
Step 6: Close the Hood
Done!
